For sale is my 1990 Westfalia.
I have painstakingly done everything to this van to make it the van I wish I would have purchased in the first place. This van has been upgraded and serviced by the best in the business including Rocky Mountain Westy, Small Car Performance and Northwesty. I have done what these shops have recommended to make this van a worry free, smooth driving and safe Westy.
Here are the details:
This vehicle was converted to a Subaru SVX engine with the van at 90,000 miles. The Subaru V-6 is from an SVX and was reported to have 40,000 miles. The conversion was done by Subagon out of Redding CA and was purchased by the “first” owner in 2010 who kept it until it had 99,000 miles. I purchased it in 2016 and since then have spared no expense to make this van 100% reliable.
Here are the modifications/upgrades the vehicle had when I purchased it:
New Paint - 2 stage, base + clear coat
1992 Subaru SVX 3.3 liter engine - new seals and timing belt
Subaru ECU to Vanagon Wiring Harness
Stage 2 Clutch (Manual Transmission)
New Subaru Flywheel
Kennedy Pressure Plate
2 inch suspension lift front and rear
White guage faces
Solar Panel Kit - 100W
Dual Battery System
Propex HS2000 Heater
New Pop Up Tent with side windows
I have all of the maintenance receipts from that “original” owner who was proactive about all maintenance. When I purchased this Westy I immediately went to work using best in class shops and parts manufacturers to make this a worry-free reliable van that could be driven anywhere.
Here is a consolidated list of the upgrades I have done (I have all itemized receipts detailing all work):
Go Westy Steel Front and Rear Bumper
Go Westy Black 16” Alloy Wheels with new tires
Go Westy Bigger Brake Kit
Go Westy Black Rubber Mats
Go Westy Recaro Front Drivers Seat
Go Westy South African Grill
Go Westy Refrigerator Delete Kit
Go Westy Rear Bug Screen
Vision X Vortex 7” LED headlights - installed by NorthWesty
3M Window Film - Black Chrome series - all windows including clear on windshield (keeps van much cooler - the heat reflective product 3M makes)
T3 Anti-Sway Bar (Incredible handling improvement)
New Horn Contact Ring so horn works - Rocky Mountain Westy
Shady Boy Awning
Here is a list of the mechanical modifications I have had done:
Complete Upgrade of Header and Exhaust System (gained 4” of ground clearance) - Done by Small Car Performance in Tacoma
Install Limited Slip Differential - Small Car Performance (no more one-wheel drive)
New Starter, Clutch, Flywheel and Bellhousing - Small Car Performance
Aluminum Oil Pan upgrade - Small Car Performance
Subaru SVX Aluminum Expansion Tank - Rocky Mountain Westy
SVX Cooling System upgrade - Rocky Mountain Westy
SVX Upgraded Air Intake System - Rocky Mountain Westy
Alignment with new bushings for Lower Control Arm and Front Radius - Rocky Mtn Westy
Rear CV Joints - Lobro - Rocky Mountain Westy
Rear Heater Core - Rocky Mountain Westy
Transmission Rebuild with new 3rd and 4th Gear - European Autohaus - Spokane
The SVX engine has 230 hp vs. the stock 90 hp vanagon engine. This engine has more power than I have ever needed and has no problem doing 70 or more going east over Snoqualmie Pass.
Northwesty recommended the T3 Anti-Sway Bar and that made the handling incredible.
The interior of this van is a 9 out 10 with no rips or stains. Just normal wear. It is extremely clean and we have never cooked in this van - only heated up tea. I have all the stock tables and arms and the blinds are original.
I am selling this van because of a back injury that makes it painful to sleep in the van. If my back didn’t hurt, I would keep this van forever.
