83 Vanagon 1.9 N/A Diesel conversion with 4 speed manual trans, great winter project for someone who likes to paint! I’ll try to sell for the next few weeks, then it goes into winter storage. I have two of these, and this is the better runner by far, but the other one wins for me because it’s prettier. After sitting all summer it started up instantly and runs smoothly, I’ve owned this van for 15 years and it’s had a lot of attention, just not a paint job. I added the Sunliner top, and reupholstered the Z-bed, added the cabinet, and altered the rear cabinet to allow the engine compartment to open without removal of the engine cover. Added gauges, oil pressure, oil temp, volt, and EGT, and has a front mounted oil cooler. Also converted the alternator to Subaru, so no more shim belt adjustment. Due to some rust, I replaced the rear hatch with a late model, it has a working rear wiper. 1.9 is rebuilt and very clean, and the injection pump and injectors have been dialed in also, probably why it runs so great. Not a pretty van by any means, but straight, no major rust, and the pop top is great for storing gear while camping. Price of $7000.00 reflects the excellent mechanical condition.
P.S., also included, studded tires on Mercedes rims, a rear facing seat, and a funky Westphalia icebox/sink unit with tank and pump, and a used original VW windshield, ( the existing one has a long crack along the lower 3rd of the glass)...
