1995 VW Volkswagen Eurovan Camper, 2.5l, 65k miles, Automatic Transmission. Price: 21,899

This 1995 Eurovan Camper is a truly rare find, with less than 100k original miles. The engine has never been rebuilt.

Exterior Features:

—Mercedez-Benz Lift Kit

The van has been upgraded with the revered Go-Westy WTP-EVC lift kit with Mercedez-Benz wheels and Yokohama Geolander tires, a $2,099.95 upgrade.

—Simple Storage Rack

Up top, a simple 2-bar storage rack has been installed. I used the rack to move my 80-lb Jackson Kilroy kayak earlier this year.

Interior Features:

—Propane-Powered Stainless Steel Cooktop

I was advised by the previous owner that a new fuse is needed to relay power from the axillary battery to the starter.
I have never used the cooktop, and it does not work presently.

The fixtures are clean, smooth, and completely rust-free. Two Wedgewood dials control the two propane burners.

—Sink and 8-Gallon Gray Water Tank

The faucet and sink are in clean, working condition. A black knob twists to turn the water off and on. Gray water flows to the gray water tank. Gray waters flows out of the vehicle and onto the ground below when the gray water cap is removed and its valve left opened.

—On-Board Refrigerator

I was advised by the previous owner that a new fuse is needed to relay power from the axillary battery to the refrigerator.
I have never used the refrigerator, and it does not work presently.

Two Electrical Outlets

One electrical outlet (just like the ones you have in your walls at home) is located on the black panel shared by the refrigerator. Another is located in the rear of the van, across from the closet door.

I have never used these auxiliary outlets, and they do not work presently.

—Accordion-Style Privacy Blinds

The windshield, back window, sliding-door window, and rear-right window are all shaded with reflective, accordion-and-velcro
'Go-Westy EVC-Shade-Bundle Shade Set' blinds that close-up quickly and easily. The side-left window is shaded with the manufacturer's original accordion blind.

—Ample Storage Space

The van features 3 hinged, pull-open cabinets, 1 closet, an under-the-bench-seat storage drawer, an over-sized along-the-floor storage space as well as a rear-storage compartment both of which are accessible through the rear door. My partner is an avid fisherman, and when we moved across the country, we were able to put his 12 fully-assembled rods plus 2 kayak paddles along the inside ceiling of the van where the top pops up. Occasionally, I have used this same overhead space to safely transport large canvases and art pieces.

—On-Board 12-Gallon Water Tank

—Two Hide-Away / Fold-Out Tables

I have the original tables, in clean vintage condition with limited scratches and signs of use. The legs are attached by hinges and the table top hooks into the cooktop veneer.

—Spray-Off-Your-Boots or Water-Your-Plants Rear Spray Nozzle

I love this feature. A small spray nozzle with hose pulls out from the rear panel nearest the back window. After a long hike or a day at the beach, you can clean off your feet before you head back inside. A switch turns the water pump off and on, so that the pump won't draw power when it's not in use.

—Auxiliary Battery and On-Board Heating System

I installed a new marine battery in June, 2019. It connects and charges easily with solar panels.

I was advised by the previous owner that a new fuse is needed to relay power from the axillary battery to the on-board heating system and its Honeywell control panel. I have never used the on-board heating system and it does not work presently.

—Volkswagon Classic Pop-Top with Extra Sleeping Space

Sometimes the fold-out back boards of these Eurovans warp or crack with age. The condition of the backboard is important if you want to pop the top and actually sleep in the overhead space. The backboard in this van is un-warped with no water damage and few signs of use. I have tested it and it performs well with weight ~200 lbs.

The shocks that lift and support the pop top are relatively new and in clean working condition. The canvas is in good, clean condition. One section of the zippered mesh window is cracked with age.

—Convertible Bench Seat with Original Mattress

The fabric and vinyl interior of this van is overall in really clean condition. I have the original leather and fabric mattress that pairs with the convertible bench seat. It's firm and comfortable to rest on.

About the Life of This Van:

I moved with this van to Louisville, Colorado in November, 2019. It has been marginally exposed to the icy weather conditions and the de-icing agents used on Colorado's major highways.

Prior to this very recent move, the van spent its life between the San Francisco Bay Area in a sunny, even-keeled climate or garaged in Salem, Oregon, a similarly vintage-van-friendly climate.

When you examine the van's Carfax report, you will find that sometime early in its life (sometime around 20-30k miles), its title was converted to a salvage title. As best as I can tell, this was due to a clerical error, likely from the Hayward, California DMV.

Sometime in the van's life, it received some kind of superficial external damage. The rear right side of the van has a small but evident patch of 'Bondo'. This area is rusted.

Otherwise, everywhere else on the van, including the wheel wells and the underside of the van is rust-free.

In April, 2019, an exhaustive inspection was performed by German Motors of Salem Inc., a Volkswagon Specialist in Salem Oregon, detailing the current needs of the van and forecasting the next maintenance items. A piece of this inspection is shared as an image above. Interested buyers may contact me for a full scanned copy of their inspection. Noted in their inspection are these upcoming maintenance items:

—Brake fluid is 'very dirty' and should be flushed
—Timing belt is in 'Fair' condition and replacing the belt is recommended due to its age
—Front brakes are at 60% ; Rear brakes are at 50%.
—The RF brake line is twisted and should be serviced
—The axillary water pump presents 'minor seepage' and should be serviced
—Upper ball joints should be serviced ('boots are torn')
—A new air to oil transmission cooler should be installed

—Personally, I have observed that the van rattles when you first crank it, an indicator that the engine mount should be adjusted or replaced.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing more is needed. The van drives well and handles well. There is no coughing, clicking or other troublesome sound coming from the engine. No fluids leak or pool under the vehicle, ever. In my experience on this market, some vintage camper van owners have to 'warm up' their vehicles before they hit the road— this has not been my experience with this van. It cranks and performs reliably, every time.
