This is an original California van that spent all its life in Southern California until I bought it 2011. It is the full camper with stove, refrigerator (not working but comes with new Coleman cooler) and sink. Both front and rear swing out tables are in excellent condition. It also has electric windows and central locking all of which work. Have full curtains and the rare back window screen. The tent was replaced but frankly installation by previous owner not the best. It's serviceable but not perfect.
I am retired and live in Hawaii and leave the van on the mainland when I come up to explore the country. Although the registration and plates show Hawaii it has never been there and there is absolutely no rust. I am the third owner and the previous two have taken good care of the van. It has a quality respray in the original Bordeaux Red Pearl, Mercedes Benz 16" wheels were adapted to the original hubs. BF Goodrich All Terrain 215/70/R16 tires are a vastly more stable than the original tire/wheel spec. No more getting blown around when a semi truck goes by in the opposite direction! Also it gives the synchro look without the expense and complexity.
In my eight years of ownership I have lavished more care including the following:
- new Go Westy complete stainless steel exhaust system including catalytic converter installed last month. Van has passed California emissions test and ready to be registered there.
- new OEM water pump
- new Go Westy LP tank. At $550 installed a good safety investment
- new main battery replaced in 2016
- Go Westy auxiliary battery kit and inverter
- Go Westy utility hook up boxes with quick connect hose coupler
- Go Westy faucet. So glad to be done with the Mickey Mouse original. ,
- Perhaps best accessory of all: Go Westy upper and lower foam mattress toppers. At $450 a great addition to camping comfort
- Custom car cover.
- Go Westy Bra
As to mechanicals:
- resealed gas tank
- replaced one window lift and switch
And last but not least the original engine finally died. Fortunately it occurred in Orange County where I discovered a VW specialist in Costa Mesa that was highly recommended on the Go Westy website. So $8500 dollars later the following was done about 4000 miles ago:
Exchanged block for new 2.1 liter remanufactured long block engine as original. New water pump, stainless coolant lines, fuel lines, engine mounts and anything else needing replacement. The ac compressor is installed but never hooked up and does not work.
Also had the complete GoWesty stainless steel exhaust system including cat converter installed at a cost of $1800..The van recently passed California's tough emission test.
I am currently traveling and will arrive Irvine CA. with the van on or around June 21. Please contact me should you wish to see and test drive the vehicle.. Copies of the clean Hawaii title, approved smog check, engine and exhaust system invoices and clean Car Fax report are with van.
I am selling because I have other plans and they do not include the Westy and it's time for someone else to enjoy it with its new engine and great cosmetics.
