We are extremely proud to introduce our high-quality, brand-new, GoWesty-designed throttle body for your 2.1L and late 1.9L Vanagon.
• New 52mm anodized billet aluminum throttle body housing
• New anodized aluminum throttle plate.
• Sealed, stainless ball bearings locate the throttle shaft rotationally. No bushings to wear out.
• Precise shims locate the throttle shaft axially. No more throttle plate/housing contact and resulting wear of both.
• All new hardware
• Pre-adjusted throttle position switch (TPS)
These throttle body assemblies are completely new and have no core charge!
Note: This throttle body is a direct replacement for all throttle bodies with ONE micro switch. This throttle body is a direct fit for all 2.1L throttle bodies and 1.9L throttle bodies that have 1 micro switch located under the throttle body. This throttle body is NOT a direct replacement for 1.9L throttle bodies with the two micro switches on top of the TB, modification to the EFI wiring harness is necessary for that application.
The stock throttle body is a poorly-built design, and it is the cause of many problems after 20+ years of operation. One of the main issues with the stock design is that the shaft is not shimmed properly, which causes the throttle shaft and plate to move downward (gravity). This downward force causes the throttle plate to come into contact with the throttle body housing, and the resulting wear creates some serious issues: air flow around the plate leads to high and unstable engine idle speeds; the throttle can stick open or closed, which creates a very unpleasant driving experience, and can be dangerous. This contact also causes the shaft to become uncentered, which increases shaft-to-throttle body wear. The throttle position switch becomes nearly impossible to adjust properly, meaning the Digifant system has no good indication of whether the system is actually at idle (for idle control) or actually at full throttle—which can wreak havoc with the Digifant system.
This GoWesty designed throttle body eliminates all of these problems. The throttle body housing is bored smooth to a 52mm diameter and fitted with a brand-new anodized aluminum throttle plate. The housing is machined for common size sealed ball bearings, which hold the shaft firmly in place. Every throttle shaft is shimmed properly to locate the throttle plate and prevent contact with the housing over time. Each throttle position switch and throttle plate stop has been pre-adjusted in-house during assembly.
