Pop-Top Tents
We offer aftermarket reproduction pop-top tents, and genuine German Westfalia pop-top tents. Read on to discover how they stack up against each other.
Aftermarket Reproduction Tents
Our reproduction replacement tents are made in the USA of high-quality materials from original patterns for a great fit, and the best part is ALL OUR U.S MADE TENTS HAVE THREE WINDOWS! Step-by-step instructions are also included for the do-it-your-self installer.
These reproduction tents come in three different types of materials:
1. Cotton Canvas
2. Hemp/Cotton Blend Canvas.
3. Acrylic Outdura® Synthetic Canvas
What's the difference, you ask? Read on, and we'll help you find the right tent for your beloved camper.
Cotton Canvas
The cotton canvas tents are our entry-level product. It's the least expensive of the three, and it offers good durability and fit. However, this material is not colorfast, nor is it as weather resistant any of the other fabric options. Basically, if you can afford to upgrade, you should.
Hemp/Cotton Blend Canvas
This tent is crafted from thick 14oz - 55% hemp/45% certified organic cotton canvas, and it looks gorgeous! We chose to offer this material for its environmentally friendly nature, and inherent high performance characteristics. This hemp and organic cotton canvas material requires no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, chlorine bleach or dyes to grow and manufacture. Every one of these tents we sell keeps bad stuff out of our soils, waterways, lakes and oceans. It may be a small drop in a big bucket, but every bit helps! Hemp is naturally mold and mildew resistant, and the tight weave and thickness of the material makes it highly durable and naturally water-repellant.
Acrylic Outdura® Canvas
This is our high-end, fully synthetic tent. We developed this tent specifically for our Pacific Northwest customers who needed maximum rain/weather resistance. Since then, many people across the states (and beyond!) have purchased this fully synthetic tent for its durability, resistance to mold and mildew, and great look in a variety of custom colors. The synthetic fibers in this canvas cannot absorb water, so the tent dries much faster than any other tent canvas material. But it's acrylic! Isn't that all smooth and shiny like nylon? Nope. This material looks and feels just like cotton canvas. It's awesome!
German Westfalia Tents
Our German made pop-top tents come from the original manufacturer that supplied Westfalia. In other words, they are exactly the same as the original tents fitted in late-model Vanagons—same material, same look, same fit. The only exception is that they can be ordered with one window or three! They are made with the same polyester/cotton blend that withstood the last 20+ years of your campers life.
Special note for 1983-84 Vanagon shoppers:
On early Vanagon campers (1980 to 1983-ish), the tent fastens to the top with staples and a "tack strip." On later models (1984-ish to 1991) the tent fastens to the top with screws and an aluminum strip. If you have a 1983/1984 camper, please check your camper to see if you've got staples or screws... if it's staples, order one of our "704" model tents. If you have screws, then order a "707" model.
